Benefits And Applications of FIBC Bags - Rishi FIBC

FIBC Bags – Revealing It’s Many Benefits And Applications

When it comes to storing, handling or transporting of flaky, powdery or granular products, the majority of industries make use of the FIBC or the Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers. Traditionally, many of such industrial products were packaged and handled in corrugated cartons. Although such cartons were double walled or multi layered, they were expensive to manufacture and would also become very heavy or bulky to handle. The 4 loops FIBC bags that have replaced the corrugated cartons now are not only durable but also light in weight. In fact these bags that come with different spouts have created a sort of revolution in packaging industry when it comes to handling various industrial products.

Manufactured in different sizes the FIBC bags or containers are made from woven polypropylene fabric. The cubic bags are actually 4 loops FIBC bags and usually have a single layer. However they may be laminated or have a loose lining for protection. Another advantage offered by the 4 loops FIBC bags are that they can be foldable and made compact after discharging the products. This results in better ergonomics and lesser back strains to handlers. Added to all this is the fact that the FIBC bags are 100% safe and recyclable.

FIBC manufacturers know of the static risks involved in handling these bags. The PP fabric used for these bags that are manufactured in different sizes is first UV treated and made insulation proof. By doing this any accumulation of static charge that is gathered during filling or discharge of the product can be dispensed with and made shock proof. Thus many ignitions, explosions or fire accidents to surrounding handlers or unearthed materials are easily avoided.

Industrialists using the FIBC containers or bags are a happy lot as they can save over 50% costs in packaging. These FIBC bags can be custom designed to specific applications unlike the traditional corrugated cartons that were manufactured in standard dimensions only. Use of the different size FIBC bags means saving on labor. A single 2000 pound FIBC bag can hold the contents of nearly eighty 25 pound bags. This also results in avoiding repetitive labor, less injury and a saving on packaging that would have been otherwise required for the same job.

Classification of FIBC Bags

FIBCs are categorized into four broad types based on static protection that they offer:

Applications of FIBC Bags

FIBC bags are commonly used to package products which are dry, flow able and in powder forms. Even granules and also flaky items can be packaged in these light weight and spouted bags. Of late, they have found to be immensely useful in packaging the bulkier non-flowing products like molded plastic parts. Some of the industries that generally go for the FIBC containers are the chemical industries, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, the plastic industries, the mining industries, steel industries, resin manufacturers and other manufacturers that deal with powder kind of products.

FIBC Containers or bags manufactured by Rishi FIBC are quality assured and certified. They go through absolute scrutiny right from the raw materials used to manufacture them until they are branded as the finished products and ready for use. The company also provided custom bags and packaging solution so you get bags that are tailor-made for your needs. No wonder, the FIBC bags by Rishi FIBC have created revolution in the current packaging scenario.

UN rated bulk bags-Rishi FIBC

What is UN Bags Rated Bags?

If you’re involved in the transportation of materials or substances which are highly regulated, you will need to make use of storage containers or bags which are sturdy and won’t cause any environmental disasters. This becomes very important especially if the substances that you are transporting happen to be toxic or volatile in nature.

What Exactly Is A UN Rated Bulk Bag?

UN rated bulk bags are FIBCs which have been specially designed and have a much higher durability than normal bulk bags. Normal FIBC bags have to stick to a safety ratio of 5:1 which is the current industry standard. However, UN rated bags have an extremely impressive safety ratio of 6:1. UN rated bulk bags are heavy duty and highly durable. This ensures safe storage and transportation of any volatile or hazardous materials.

What Are The Reasons You Should Opt For A UN Rated Bulk Bag?

UN rated bulk bags undergo lots of rigorous tests to ensure that they are upto industry standards. These bags are given the seal of approval by UN authorities. These UN bags have many advantages and have to undergo lots of tests to ascertain quality such as:

  • Righting test – During this test, the bulk bags are filled to capacity with the test material and are then pushed so that they fall to the side. The bag is then lifted into the appropriate position using only two loops. If the test is positive, both the bag and the loops should not be damaged in any way.
  • Drop test – For the purpose of this test, the bulk bags are filled right up to their maximum capacity. However, the total weight is evenly distributed. They are then dropped from a pre-determined height. For the test to be successful, the bag should not burst or allow any of the material inside it to escape.
  • Tear test – In this test, the bulk bags are filled up to the maximum level of capacity and then slashed with a knife (100 mm long cut) at an angle of 45 degrees. The purpose of this test is to check whether the tear expands or allows material to leak out when pressure is exerted.
  • Top lift test – For most of these tests, the bags are filled with material up to maximum capacity. They are then suspended by using loops. A hydraulic cylinder is placed amongst the bags and they are required to maintain six times the normal load for five minutes.
  • Topple test – This test is quite similar to the drop test discussed earlier. They are filled to the brim and kept on a platform. Unlike in the drop test, the bags are not dropped straight down but they are toppled to the side. For the results to be positive, the bag must not leak or burst.
  • Stacking test – For the purpose of this test, bags are filled to capacity and then stacked on a flat surface and uniform pressure is exerted on the bags to ascertain whether they can withstand tough pressure conditions.

The UN is very strict about these tests and other regulations which have to be met. If the bulk bags fail any of these tests, they will not be legally categorized as UN rated bulk bags.

What are UN 4-Loop FIBCs?

  • UN 4-Loop FIBCs are very durable and safe and are an excellent semi-bulk packaging solution
  • They are perfect for containing powder, granules and flakes
  • They also provide protection against electrostatics and moisture in the atmosphere
