The Mechanism Inside a Silo Bag

Silo bags are specialised storage bags for appropriately storing crop harvests to reduce harvest losses. The bags are immensely helpful for the farmers to gain perfect control over marketing their stored grains between crop harvests. When choosing silo bags, it is essential to buy from a trusted manufacturer such as Rishi FIBC.

The silo bags manufactured by Rishi FIBC is made up of seven layers of Blown extruded technology along with different polymers for the manufacturing of the best quality polyethene silo bags which are of thickness 180 to 250 microns. The bags come with a diameter of about five to twelve feet and varying lengths of 60 metres, 75 metres, 90 metres, 120 metres or higher. The outer layer of the silo bags is white with UV protective coating and the inner layer which is in contact with the grains is black. The bags are designed to stretch as per the standards which plays a crucial role in expelling the oxygen and making the bag compact. Now, let us learn about the mechanism inside a silo bag.

  • The silo bag is sealed properly after the grains are stored inside. As the bag is sealed, it becomes airtight. Therefore, anything alive in the bags such as insects, bacteria, etc., and the grains consume the limited amount of oxygen available inside the bag along with expelling carbon dioxide.
  • Generally, within ten days the volume of oxygen drops from 20 percent to 3 percent. At the same time, the volume of carbon dioxide in the bags rises from zero per cent to 17 per cent.
  • This, in turn, makes the inside of the silo bags anaerobic in nature, thereby preventing the development as well as the reproduction of fungus, insects, and bacteria inside the bags keeping them free from all the unwanted elements.

Thus, it can be very clearly understood how a silo bag works to keep the inside contents in a perfect condition.
